Brunswick Automotive had a disappointing Nurburgring 24 Hour race in May. Having started well climbing over 30 places in the first 90 minutes, Malcolm Edeson, the teams second driver lost control on oil spilled by a BMW M3 at Metzgesfeld, the ensuing collision causing enough damage to force the Alfa Romeo 156 out of the race after only 7 laps. An in car video of the incident can be found here. Below is a picture of the car during Friday's qualifying session (photo: www.24h-rennen.de)

Meanwhile in the Britcar championship, the teams Mazda RX7 driven by Dave Ashford has continued its strong form in Class 4, taking a 1st and a 2nd place at the A1GP meeting at Brands Hatch at the beginning of May. The team then traveled to Belgium and the legendary Spa Francorchamps circuit where the Mazda once again ran well to take 3rd in class in a 4 hour race that ran into the darkness. The car is currently 2nd overall in the Class 4 championship and 3rd overall in the Britcar Production Cup. Further good results have been achieved in the CSCC Tin Tops series with Alastair Hunter taking an impressive pole position at Mallory Park in only his 3rd ever race in his Brunswick built Peugeot 205, sadly his race ended with a gear linkage problem, handing the class win the the Brunswick powered Alfa 33 of Sean Woodard.

The brand new Brunswick Automotive built Peugeot 205 GTi of Alastair Hunter had an excellent debut in the "Tin Tops" series at Snetterton on the 5th of April, in spite of a lack of testing, Alastair qualified 3rd in class and finished the 40 minute race, 4th in class thus marking an excellent racing debut for the Australian driver. In what was to prove to be a fantastic day for Brunswick prepared cars, the Alfa Romeo 33 of Sean Woodard finished 5th overall and first in class, powered by a 1.7 8V Brunswick built engine. Below, the Peugeot 205 GTi of Alastair Hunter is pictured the day before it left for Snetterton.

The Brunswick Automotive Mazda RX7 of Dave Ashford and Giles Groombridge survived blizzard conditions to finish a fine 2nd in class in the opening round of the Britcar championship held at the Silverstone International Circuit on the 22nd of March.
Having woken up to snow, a late decision by the team to fit the car with hand cut slicks just before the start of the morning's 30 minute qualifying session paid dividends as Dave Ashford was able to post a laptime more than 1.5 seconds faster than the car's nearest rival in Class 4.
Having started the race from class pole position, by the time the cars were half way round the first lap snow began to fall once more, turning into a full blizzard some minutes later. The safety car was deployed and the Brunswick team elected to stay out on slick tyres, a choice which led to the car briefly rising as high as 6th place overall. Further snow led to a second safety car period, and the team elected to make their compulsory 90 second stop for fuel and a driver change. Giles Groombridge took over from Dave Ashford and survived rapidly deteriorating wet tyres on a drying track to bring the car home safely in 2nd position in class, marking a strong start to the car's championship campaign.

The Brunswick Automotive Mazda RX7 successfully completed the 3rd running of the Dubai 24 Hour Race at the Dubai Autodrome over the 11th and 12th of January. The RX7, driven by James Baxter, Matt West, Nick Gooch, Giles Groombridge & Dave Ashford enjoyed a race free of mechanical problems to finish 4th in class. The car survived 12 hours of heavy rain during the night and a heavy impact from an out of control Porsche 911 and could well have had a podium finish had the refueling pumps been quicker. Also in action over the winter was Jamie Smith who participated in Wales Rally GB (the UK's round of the World Rally Championship) in his Group N Subaru Impreza. The team will be next in action at the first Britcar race of the season at Silverstone on the 22nd of March.
