Here you will find all the latest news.....................
1st December 2010
Tony and Bob have picked up their Future Classics Class winners trophy at the Annual Dinner / Dance at the Oxford
Belfry. Here they are pictured below suitably suited and booted!!!!!
8th November 2010
Tony and Bob have just been informed that they are class G winners for
the CSCC Future Classics 2010. They also finished 3rd overall.
All in all a very successful first year competing in
the Classic Sports Car Club, Future Classics races.
5th November 2010
The latest race took place at Snetterton on the 17th of November. The day consisted of 30 minutes qualifying and two 40 minute races.
Qualifying was a relatively uneventful affair with the boys putting the car on pole to maintain a 100% record for the season.
Tony started the race and maintained their class lead before handing over to Bob. After 25 minutes the front brakes started to fail again, and after a scare into Riches which caused Bob to leave the circuit and take an exertion into the local vegetation, Bob decided to back off and nurse the car home. Fortunately Tony had built up a big enough lead for them to take another class win.
After changing the brake pads, bleeding the brakes and installing brake
ducting, hopes were high that their brake problems
were over with.
Bob took the car out first for the second race and by the time he handed over to Tony, had built up a class lead and there was no sign of brake problems. Tony maintained the class lead and successfully brought the car home for another class win and a 100% record for the season. 6 races. 6 poles. 6 wins.
9th September 2010
The latest race took place at Silverstone on the 4th of September. The day consisted of 30 minutes qualifying and a 40 minute race.
With another BMW 2002 entered as well as a Porsche, 3 Alfa Romeos and a Lancia Delta in their class, Tony and Bob were expecting stiff competition for the latest round of the CSCC Future Classics Class G race.
Bob took the car out first and managed to get a couple of traffic free
laps to set a time that they hoped would be quick enough for class pole. Tony
took over from Bob, and after a scare with front brake failure, also managed to
set some quick qualifying times.
When the classification for qualifying was released, Bob and Tony had managed
to set class pole, albeit by 0.423 of a second.
Bob started the race and after deciding to take the safe option of the outside on the first corner, came out second in class behind the other BMW 2002. Bob managed to get past only to be re-overtaken on the back straight into the complex. After another close lap, Bob got past on the back straight, and continued to hold class lead until the other 2002 broke down and gave Bob breathing space.
With 18 minutes gone, the front brakes started to fail again, which meant Bob had brake earlier and softer to maintain the front brakes.
Tony took over at the halfway stage and not only managed the braking problem, but also managed the lead over their nearest class rival to bring the car home for yet another class win.
Another very successful day but Tony and Bob will need to investigate the braking problem before their next outing at Snetterton in October.
6th July 2010
The latest race took place at the magnificent Spa circuit in Belgium on the 2nd of July.
After their recent class successes at Snetterton and Brands Hatch, Tony and Bob had high hopes for another class victory even though Tony had never raced at the circuit before and Bob last raced at Spa 10 years ago.
Tony was first out in qualifying but after only 2 laps the car dropped onto 3 cylinders and sounded decidedly sick. Fearing the worst Tony pulled in immediately and killed the engine. Subsequent checks showed that one of the rocker retainers had come loose and subsequently the rocker had slid along the rocker shaft causing both rockers on number 3 cylinder to move off the valve. Both tappet adjusters were damaged and at first glance Bob and Tony thought their race was over before it had begun. A call to Dave Ashford at Brunswick was made and a plan devised to facilitate a repair to the head.
Tony, Bob and Jeff (our help for the weekend) worked hard through the evening (with able assistance from fellow racers from Scotland, France and Germany) and when we fired the car up at 23:00 you could feel the relief from everyone concerned.
After record breaking temperatures and brilliant sunshine all weekend, everybody was in disbelief as thunder clouds started to roll in 30 minutes before the start of the race. 5 minutes before Tony was due to leave the collecting area for the start of the race, the heavens opened. The clerk of the course decided to start the race behind the safety car and this was agreed by all to be a very wise decision. With cars aquaplaning everywhere the first few laps were treacherous and some competitors decided to wait in the pits for conditions to improve before venturing out.
Because of the engine problems both drivers had decided to keep the revs down to 6,500 and just enjoy the circuit and bring the car home safely. Tony drove magnificently in the appalling conditions and when he handed over to Bob after 30 minutes he had a slight class lead. With conditions improving and a dry line forming, Bob was able to maintain class position to take a class win by 10 seconds from their nearest class rival.
All in all a great weekend on a great racing circuit.
10th May 2010
The latest race took place at Brands Hatch on the 10th of May.
After their previous two visits had resulted in a near rolling of the car at Paddock Hill bend and a bad accident at the end of last season, they entered a cold, dull Brands Hatch with some trepidation.
Because of the future classic race being oversubscribed, class G was moved to the tin top race. This race has the much faster and more modern cars. Qualifying went quite well with them gaining a 10th place on the grid and pole for their class.
Bob started the race and managed to get up to ninth before a safety car came out for an accident after 17 minutes of the 40 minute race.
With most of the other teams deciding to take this opportunity to change drivers, the Brunswick team decided to leave Bob out until the end of the safety car period. This would mean that they would not get stuck at the end of the pit lane while the safety car came past.
When Bob was called in on the last lap of the safety car, the 2002 was leading the race and continued to do so after Tony re-entered the race. After 2 more laps the though, the Honda Civics and Integras finally managed to hunt Tony down to take their rightful position at the head of the field.
Tony took the chequered flag in ninth place, but more importantly, they were class winners for the second race on the trot by 2 clear laps.
After this latest success, its next stop Spa-Francochamps for the Brunswick Motorsport 2002 on the 1st of July.
11th April 2010
Tony and Bob have decided to enter the Classic Sports Car Club race
meetings in 2010 and the first event was at Snetterton.
Qualifying did not go as planned as the electrics cut out on the first lap of
qualifying. As Snetterton were running a ‘snatch’ operation the car was
returned to the paddock with enough time for them to repair the car and they
managed to both get in 3 laps and qualify the car in 14th place, but
more importantly they were 1st in class.
Bob was first out in the car and by lap 3 had moved up to 10th. When Bob came in and handed over the car to Tony, they had a 30 second lead in class but there was also a severe judder under braking.
Tony took over and reeled off a series of consistent laps to keep the car in 10th spot and also managed to increase the class lead to 40 seconds by the end of the race.
More importantly the new engine performed brilliantly and their fastest lap of 1m 24s was over 3 seconds quicker than their best time in 2009.
Pictures from the meeting at Snetterton.
8th April 2010
The car has visited the rolling road and their new engine is now putting out 205bhp. This is around 30bhp more than last year.
10th Jan 2010
Bob and Tony have decided to have their engine rebuilt using JE domed pistons this year. These are a copy of the Alpina piston used to great success by BMW motorsport.
They have also decided to enter the car for Classic Sports Car Club race meetings. This meant they have had to replace the Group2 wheel arches and splitter for the standard turbo body kit. Below are some pictures of the car with the new body kit on.
25th October 2009
The last race of the season did not go as planned. After a fairly
uneventful qualifying, Tony took the car out first for the first race.
On lap 2 a mustang spun in front of Tony. With nowhere to go Tony hit the car
causing extensive damage.
1st/2nd August 2009
The Snetterton round of the BTCC championship was the next outing for the
Brunswick Motorsports 2002.
A new fuel tank pick-up system had just been completed and with no time to test
the car, fingers were crossed that this would cure their fuel starvation
problems.
Bob took the car out first in qualifying and it soon became apparent that the
problem was still there. A lowly last place was the best result Tony and Bob
could manage, 2 seconds slower than the nearest car.
Before the first race, after advice from Dave Ashford at Brunswick Automotive, they decided to loosen off the nuts that hold the carburetors to the inlet manifold. It was thought that the carburetors could be vibrating too much and causing the fuel to ‘froth’ in the float chambers.
Tony took the car out first for race 1 and it could be seen immediately from the lap times that the car was running quicker than qualifying. Bob took over from Tony 20 seconds behind their class front runner after a slower than normal driver change. Bob did manage to close down the gap to 5 seconds before the chequered flag beat them to a class win. The good news was the car did run better and they improved their race times by over 3 seconds on their qualifying time.
For race 2 Bob took the car out first and put the car in a solid second place before handing over to Tony. While fighting for position going into Russell’s chicane, Tony had to take to the grass which ended in a spin. This effectively put them out of contention and they finished 3rd in class.
The good thing to come out of the weekend is that they have cured their fuel starvation problems and the car is in one piece.

Well the head has been completely rebuilt after our broken rocker at Snetterton. When we stripped the head we also found a broken spring on a different valve. We have rebuilt the head using with new valves, springs and retainers from VAC Motorsports and billet rockers from Jeff Ireland Engineering. As you can see we have also removed the spray bar as we were getting far too much oil in the head. Also shown are a couple of pictures of the car with its race winning laurels.
22/07/08
Tony and Bob turned up at Snetterton hoping that the car would perform faultlessly on its full debut. The Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge had 2 races on the card. One 25 minute sprint race, the other a 40 minute 2 driver race. Unfortunately only 2 cars turned up to compete in Class A and they were hopeful of a class win.
Tony took the car out for qualifying first and completed 5 laps before
coming in to allow Bob to qualify as well. After 2 laps of Bob's qualifying the
car dropped in power with what felt like the old problem of fuel starvation.
This was diagnosed as the case and the session was over.
The good thing was that Tony had put in some solid qualifying laps and had
managed to get class pole.
On checking after qualification it could be seen that the fuel filter had blocked up. Tony and Bob came up with an elaborate scheme of putting in 2 big parallel fuel filters which they hoped would last a 40 minute race.
The boys had elected to let Bob do the 25 minute sprint race. After a poor start where he dropped to last, he managed to pass a number of cars to come in a solid class winner. First race completed and first success. All the team were delighted with the result.
For the 40 minute race Tony took the car out first and made a solid start, even lapping his class rival, before handing over to Bob after 20 minutes. Bob continued where Tony left off. The boys did however have a lucky finish to the race when it was red flagged just after the car had dropped on to 3 cylinders.
So a great weekend. Class pole and 2 class victories.
The only down side is that they checked the car after the second race and found a rocker had broken. They are hoping they can repair this before the next meeting at Silverstone. Some pictures from the weekend can be found in the gallery.
12/07/08
We have taken the BMW to the rolling road pre Snetterton to check out the gearbox and make sure all is OK with the fueling and ignition system. No problems were encountered so it's all systems go for Snetterton on the 19th / 20th. Qualifying will take place on Saturday the 19th, with a 25 minute and 40 minute race on Sunday the 20th.
05/07/08
The BMW has been back to Snetterton for a test and more problems have been found.
After fixing the ignition problems, fueling problems still remained. This was finally diagnosed to a carburetor and this was fixed at the track. We managed to get some good runs in with the car and after minor changes to tyre pressures and shock settings we got the car handling superbly.
The only problems were with the gearbox. This has been removed and been rebuilt by Dave Ashford at Brunswick Automotive and has been re-installed. We will be taking the car to the rolling road to check the timing and make sure all is OK with the gearbox.
Fingers are crossed and we have entered the car for Snetterton on July 19th / 20th in the Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge.
04/05/08
Tony and Bob were at Brands Hatch this weekend for their first race in the Heritage Grand Touring Car Challenge. They were looking forward to 2 races at the A1 GP meeting.
Unfortunately things didn't go as planned and Tony only made it to the Druids hairpin before the engine cut out. They finally managed to get the car running again by changing the distributor and were hoping to qualify out of session with the Brit cars.
The car was driven to the collecting area and parked up. As they were called to the track the car would not start and they missed the session. End of meeting.....
Just a couple of pictures from the day.
29/04/08
Tony and Bob took their newly finished 02' to Snetterton to give the car
a shake down and set the car up ready for the first race this coming weekend.
Unfortunately carburation problems blighted their day and they had to abandon
any attempts to set the car up.
They did, however, get a few laps each in the car and were reasonably happy by the end of the day.
